Modern (Dis)Connection

In our progressing society we tend to place a strong importance of communication via social media in our relationships. Social media can connect us, but when we have the ability to connect constantly and we choose not to it can hurt otherwise healthy relationships. In my 20 in. by 10 in. canvas I convey this idea through acrylic paint, and primary colors to make for a bold look to place emphasis on this issue. The main elements of this piece are the snap chat logo and a brown haired boy to represent the strain it has on actual human connection.

The Fall of Femininity

This 11in. by 14in. canvas piece on femininity I used acrylic paint and warm colors to represent the toxic nature of what it takes to be a female in modern times. The arrows on her face are plastic surgery marks to show the societal stress to be sexy and desirable. Her eyes are rolled up to simultaneously show annoyance and the act of trying to stop tears from rolling down to show strength.

Our Daily Bread

This 10in. by 8in acrylic canvas piece I painted a cross shaped drug and bold alluring colors and patterns in order to convey the idea that religion, when it isn't authentic, can be used just to make us feel good similar to the way that people use drugs: mindlessly and in search of comfort.

Sunday/ Judgement Day

This 10in by 8in acrylic canvas piece I used the cross and a watchful eye in order to illuminate the occurrence of the church knowing people's personal and placing hypocritical judgement upon us for God is the only one that can/should judge us.

Longing with no Limits

In my 24in. by 18in. canvas piece I spray painted a sky and black lines to give a scene of openness with broken boarders. The hands are in reference to the "Creation of Adam" and are to show the beauty in longing. This piece is to show how I personal believe our society is destined to have less tradition societal expectations and how that might liberate are true humanity.

Power over Moral

This 26in. by 18in. canvas piece I painted a Queen of Hearts who appears to be suffering from a moral dilemma. I painted the heart to look as if it is breaking and used division symbols throughout to show how she is choosing power instead of being morally correct. This piece is to show the corruption of politics and how I believe that politicians may not be bad people at heart but that power can corrupt any of us.

Beautiful Breaths

In my 16in. by 24in. canvas piece I show the glorification of vaping. I spray painted the canvas red then outlined with acrylic paint a pair of lungs. Surrounding the lungs on top are roses in paint pen and the on the bottom are puffs done in acrylic paint. Layered on top of this background are a pair of graphic lips with glitter mod pod representing vape coming out of them.

The Good Within

This 34in. by 8in. long board deck is representative of how we as people can be naturally good but the world and its vast amount of problems can crush our souls. I first sanded the deck down then preceded to spray paint the background light pink. I then divided the board into three main sections.I painted the top sections black then painted in acrylic crying hearts. In the middle section I paint a foot with the world on it's pant leg stepping on a heart that is spewing bold colors with gems coming out.

Career Path

In my 24in. by 18in. canvas piece I represent the growing tendency of women choosing a career path over raising a family. The background is a dark to light purple gradient in spray paint. Layered on top in acrylic yellow paint is a path, a women in business attire, and clouds symbolic of family life on the left and a career path on the right.
